Material Obsession's swap day

'Life is about the people your meet, and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating.' 

 

Yesterday we took the very early flight to Sydney to visit the wonderful Kathy Doughty and her inspiring swap day held at her shop, Material Obsessions.

 

Quilts basked in the sun as they draped over the fences of MO, some were hung high on the stone walls of the shop. So many hours of sewing and piecing adorned every inch.

 

Beautiful patterns, fabrics, and kits filled the spaces. We noticed that much of the fabric Kathy has in her shop is the same as the fabric we have at Hettie's Patch, just in a different colour way. We have many of the same ideas and inspirations (just in a different colour way).

 

We saw Wendy Williams and her room filled with her designs and ideas. What a space to visit! You can look at Marg George's quilts over and over and find new delights each time. Sue Cody's patterns caught our attention as did her Tree of Life quilt hung over the door. Just lovely. Catherine Butterworth is a new teacher at MO, her quilts are beautifully composed. Cath was there busy helping and keeping things running smooth, John was taking photos and scaling walls in order to get the right shot.

 

These people are inspirational and make beautiful things, and being around them and their work makes you want to be more creative. Thank you MO, for having us.

 

Needless to say, we had a nap on the flight home.

I just read Kathy's post and I think it is lucky that I live here and not anywhere near that shop because I don't think I would sleep ever again with all that inspiration in one place. Amazing pool of talent.

You are too lucky, I dream of the day I can visit this shop, but meanwhile I think Hetties's is a pretty good substitute (just in a different colour way - although I like your colour way just fine)

How lovely that you could visit Kathy on her special Swap day... I just read her post and was "blown away" with all the fabulous quilts and inspiration. A lovely snap of the 2 of you, with wendy and your daughter. Any plans to do a similar day at Hetties... ?
